Reginald Lindsay Simmons was born on the 6th of November 1920 at Northcote, Victoria. He enlisted on the 11th of November 1940.

As well as serving with 457 Squadron he also served with No. 76 Squadron for fourteen months in 1942/43. He was discharged on the 21st of November 1945 from No. 457 Squadron.

Served with 76 Sqn, 75 Sqn, 82 Sqn, 2 OTU and 1 OTU; on 1/4/42 issued to 76 Sqn and served with them at Milne Bay, NG where it was coded 'IE' with 76 Sqn; on 31/12/42 it was involved in an emergency landing at Finke River Mission, NT when it hit a low rock ridge wrecking the u/c with F/Sgt Reginald Lindsay Simmons (400941) escaping injury; on 29/4/43 was received by 75 Sqn and coded GA-I with them; on 30/9/43 was received by 82 Sqn and then sent to 2 OTU on 13/4/44; on 17/5/44 issued to CGS for about 6 months returning to 2 OTU on 4/11/44; on 27/1/45 it was received by 1 OTU eventually being stored at 6 AD Oakey, Qld on 18/12/45; on 19/11/46 written off.

Reg's personnel file is not available so there are no exact dates of his time in the different squadrons but there is no doubt that he was in the thick of the action — another unsung hero!
