Fred was born on the 14th of June 1923 and passed away on the 3rd of March 2008. He began his flying training at No 8 EFTS Narrandera in April 1943 and later with No 5 SFTS Uranquinty before leaving Australia and travelling to England.
There he trained on Miles Master II's prior to being with No 71 OTU at Ismailia on Hurricanes and Spitfires.
He also flew with No 332 Norwegian Squadron of 132 Wing on Spitfire Mk IX's and then with No 66 RAF Squadron on Spitfire Mk XVI's.
His final posting was to No 453 RAAF Squadron as part of the Occupation Forces to Germany, along with No 451 RAAF Squadron.
He began and finished his working life with Newcastle's Commonwealth Steel.
